Before I attended the course of Innovation and Business Creation, the term " entrepreneurship" is a vague concept for me. From my point of view, it simply means someone who builds up and runs his own business. However, I learned that my past idea was too broad to define because it takes innovation and business creation to become entrepresiurship.
It is interesting to find that Shumpeter's and Kirzner's theories about entrepreneur are in different directions, but they are both necessray to exist in the economy. The birth of multi-level marketing ( MLM ) has shortened the distribution process and created the trend to change consumers' behaviors and habits of shopping. It is a macro-level newness to the market. In addition, it has a great impact to tradional marketing because it is a revolutionary marketing channel which leads consumers to save time and money and get a product with better quality as well.
Take Nu Skin Enterprise for example, these MLM distributors are regarded as business owners of the parent company. Can we call them entrepreneurs? Is there any other or better definition for them? They may have creative selling and training methods to expand the scope of their own organization and improve their revenues as well. I believe it's micro-level newness in distributors' own business world. Although it can hardly be denied that MLM is an innovative industry and makes a market structure change, it is an ambiguous question for me whether the distributors are entrepreneurs or not.
